Dr. Handal developed The Gilbert Procedure for failed TKA as a result of extensor mechanism rupture or insufficiency, which offers great hope to patients suffering from this catastrophic problem.

Patient Safety

Dr. Handal exhausts all conservative methods of treatment before resorting to major surgery. (Other doctors may not put in that effort, as there is more money to be made in major surgery.)

Surgery is performed by a team of two, not five, thereby decreasing the chance of infection.

Surgery is performed expeditiously but not rushed to insure quality performance of the surgery. All surgery is performed by Dr. Handal to ensure MD quality performance.

Virtually Zero percent infection rate in 15 years of joint replacement and arthroscopic surgery as well as any other cases (trauma) he has performed.

Virtually Zero percent dislocation rate in 15 years in total hip replacement without the use of overly constrained devices that may decrease the longevity of the implant.

Patient Satisfaction

All in-patients are seen by Dr. Handal in the post-operative period. If necessary, a post-operative patient who is transferred to a rehab facility will be attended to not only by the nursing and physical therapy staff, but also an internist and rehabilitation doctor as part of the team.
